DescriptionUrodilatin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as polypeptides. These are peptides containing ten or more amino acid residues. It is secreted in response to increased mean arterial pressure and increased blood volume from the cells of the distal tubule and collecting duct. Urodilatin is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). Urodilatin is a hormone that causes diuresis through increasing renal blood flow. It is important in oliguric patients (such as those with acute renal failure and chronic renal failure) as it lowers serum creatinine and increases urine output.
